Located 250 miles south of Lima, these Peruvian geoglyphs weren't spotted until commercial airlines began flying above the area in the 1920's. While the Nazca lines pictured seem random, around 300 figures, including animals and plants, cover the nearly 400,000-acre area. The origins of the geoglyphs, which are created by removing the pebbles that cover the gray desert floor, are still unknown.
